Michael Sloan wins Pulitzer in Editorial Cartooning

Writer Jake Halpern and cartoonist Michael Sloan won the Pulitzer Prize in Editorial Cartooning for an emotionally powerful series, told in graphic narrative form, that chronicled the daily struggles of a real-life family of refugees and its fear of deportation. 

Welcome to the New World” was published in 19 installments in The New York Times.

Jake Halpern is the co-author, most recently, of the novel “Edgeland.” 
Michael Sloan is an illustrator and artist.

Harvey Kurtzman’s brainchild made its debut as a comic book in 1952 before switching to a magazine format in 1955.

Over the ensuing years, MAD has featured artwork by many of the most talented cartoonists in the industry.

2017 NCS Reuben Award Finalists

National Cartoonists Society members have nominated the top five finalists for the 2017 NCS Reuben Award for “Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year”.

Ballots have been sent out to all voting NCS members this week, and the Reuben Award will be presented to the winner at the 72nd Annual Reuben Awards dinner on May 26th in Philadelphia, PA.

The nominees are cartoonists Lynda Barry, Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Hilary B. Price (Rhymes With Orange), Mark Tatulli (Heart of the City and Lio) and animator Glen Keane.
